A Christmas Reckoning

Image
It was 25 th of December and I was in Kolkata. I had been in Kolkata for the past three years, but this was my first Christmas in the city. Every year perhaps I was the first one amongst my friends to rush home post examinations – The night after the final exam. But I decided to stay for a week and experience the enthusiasm of the city on Christmas, after all, people talk about Christmas way before it arrives. Park Street! Park Street! Burger at Park Street! Night out at Park Street! That is all I’d heard in the name of the festival.                 So, there I was, in the evening, getting all styled and dressed and ready to explore. One thing that I had realised in my stay in the city was that, you can never be at par with the clock, executing your plans when you are with friends. “Where’s my shoe now?”, “I don’t think I should wear this jeans!”, ...

Man and the Moon

Image
The moon is staring at me; And I am staring at the moon. It’s peeking through the dark clouds, I am adjusting for a better view. It’s laughing at my existence, I’m laughing at its distance. The moon is turning blood red in anger, I witness it at the horizon; But what does the moon really think ? For I think it looks beautiful! A suspended ball bound to rise and set, A floating soul rising and setting. A spherical light in a murky setup, A man lost in questions in a world of answers. The moon is still staring at me, And I’m still staring at moon.

When Life met Death

Image
Every living creature on the planet wants to survive. Every living creature is programmed to push further its species.  But why? Why is everything the way it is? Why does evolution take place? What purpose does all this serve? What is life anyway? So many questions and so less answers. So here's another story out of fiction.                                                         When Life met Death A long time ago there was a craftsman, envied throughout the like and hated by the inconspicuous. Some considered his powers to be a gift but many related it to the curse set upon his father – The Caliph – when he had set out to do things that aren’t to be named. But just like the clown that gro...

Break

Image
Taking a break from daily life is necessary, because you're not superman. The world may have equal good and bad, but the bad is easier felt than the good. If you don't let go of all 'bad' that you've been collecting in daily activities, it will burn you. Break Trapped in a box devoid of fluoresce, And it's getting dimmer by the minute. Someone switch the lights on, Because people are tripping on baubles. The walls are drawing closer and closer, It's not long before they cave. But it's no issue; not of concern, The riches will fly off; the wretches will die. Dark wakens the nightmares, They're crawling all over the place, They'll hold onto you and digest your brain, Perhaps they already have!             Where's the sympathy?           Where's gone humanity?          ...

When It Rains

Image
Many people like unprecedented rains, because it feels like the end of something, or the beginning of something else. No matter who they are, no matter what they are! Some feel it from the window of their apartments, some feel it on their skins in a wide-wide world. Some find it irksome, some find it exhilarating. Some like a cup of coffee near their fireplace while staring at its magnificence; and some like to go head on against the storm. But everyone feels it! At some point, everyone finds a moment of peace in the sound of the droplets gently crashing against the ground. When It Rains Hearing noises, breathing dust, Witnessing evil, a mindful of lust; A soul lost in the crowds, A cry amongst numerous shouts; The mundane; the necessary, And the eye pleasing accessories; All return to their lairs - When it rains. A desert in the scorching sun, A stranger left stunned; The heart that wishes to be, And the drooping leaves of a tree; Alongside th...

What's Worth What!

Image
‘Some People are so poor, all they have is money.’ a quote that I read recently. And when you start thinking, it actually makes sense. This is because the worth of something is absolute, but its value is relative. Relative to us – you! That Gucci wallet or that IPhone is worth buying not because it’s Gucci or Apple, but because you think it’s worth your money; everyone around thinks it’s worth your money; they’ve made you think it’s worth your money! A hundred rupees may not seem a lot to someone, but to a homeless striving for food, that piece of paper is a life saviour. A thousand rupee note becomes a memory when it brings happiness and not just pizza. What’s Worth What! On a hot summer evening, a busy crowd pushed up Satarani Street. The place was well known for its daily travellers. Nearly half the city at least once crossed the 200 meter stretch on a working day, a survey had unveiled. On either side of the road were gigantic multi-storey buildings, which housed local...

When They Go Away

Image
People come and people go, and there's so little we can do trying to stop it. With every fall we realise we are weak and that we stand somewhere down the line. It irks at first, but then it fades away, and so it should. When they go away The birds chirp like they do every morning, The sun peeks through the fog, You wake up in the morning, everything's same; But they have gone. Gone past the clouds, gone past the sun, Gone into the realm of the unknown; And you realise all that you had to say, Only when they go away. Memories unfold like a flower in the sun, Oh you'll have them all life long! The good and the bad you had with them, Stored safe in the back of your head. But they have gone. And they also take away little of your heart, Little by little it comes apart. Maybe that is why it doesn't hurt to die old, But you only wish they'd stayed, When they go away. Life is a lie, death is the truth, Enjoy the lie 'for you hit the truth: ...
