The Ghost Of Tomorrow

There are seven billion people on the planet. That is a huge number. So, if a few hundred or thousand die sometime, would it mean anything? A few thousand doesn't sound much. But somewhere, these many deaths could mean the annihilation of an entire species.
3000 tigers, 1500 giant pandas, few thousand whales, 100 red wolves, as low as 60 Javan rhinos. 60 in the entire world! How could any sane living being let this happen? We declared ourselves proprietors of the planet and led it to doom! The ghost of tomorrow is what's racing towards extinction today, be it the entire earth, or a single soul.

The Ghost Of Tomorrow

The ghost of tomorrow,
Is staring right at you.
Can you see it?
Or are you too blinded by avarice?

The ghost of tomorrow,
Shall not speak.
For it knows you act not in haste,
But only mourn when the deed is done.

The ghost of tomorrow,
Can see itself alive.
But you do not see it now,
For a ghost is what shoots your senses.

Hush! Listen for the sermon of silence:
Do you not feel the ennui?
Everyday at the sunrise?
The ghost inside knows it all.

When did you last gaze at the stars?
When did you last talk to the ghost?
Your wrath will build it to a wraith -
And soon the ghost inside will be dead!

But what of the ghost of everything,
That lies anywhere but inside,
That you've deemed nebulous,
Like scavenging copper in golden chests!

The ghost of tomorrow,
Is pleading you now.
Wake up 'for its too late,

Wake up 'for tomorrow arrives.
